The Country Taken by Surprise
It was the biggest manhunt in history. It was the first presidential assassination, and some may even say the most our nation has ever mourned. Prior to researching I knew very little about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. I simply knew that John Wilkes Booth was responsible, and Lincoln was shot in the back of the head in a theatre. Surprisingly all of these facts that I thought I knew were indeed true. The question I set out to answer was ‘How and why was Abraham Lincoln assassinated?’. This topic relates to the Civil War because Abraham Lincoln was the president during the war and was assassinated nearly right after it ended. The reason I chose this topic is because I did not know much about how Lincoln was killed and I thought the topic was interesting.
